An evening out

Went to the Theatre last night.  The Riverwalk Theatre.  Almost, Maine by  John Cariani directed by first time director, but no stranger to theatre(being on the stage and behind the scenes for years) Joe Dickson.
"On a cold, clear moonless winter night in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine, residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised; hearts are broken; love is lost and found, and confounded. This unapologetically romantic fable explores the mysteries of the human heart with laughter, heartbreak and hope."

The reason I went to see the show is cause of this lovely lady. She did bring a tear to my eye.  Looking beautiful and nailing her part (despite the fact that her scene partner was Skeletar). The Riverwalk stage is a THRUST stage.( A theater stage that extends out into the audience's part of a theater and has seats on three sides.)

The audience is on 3 sides. I sat on the left side in the back row right in the center.  I was disappointed in the staging for the pure fact that the directer seemed to not be able to block for the sides.  I wish he would have sat where I was sitting during rehearsal because then he would have been able to see the issues and fix them.  If we had been sitting in the center section I think I would have been more engaged with the production but I was unable to see the actors expressions. Causing my mind to start to pick apart the other parts of the production.
 1)  I LOVED the lighting!  The greens, blues, and yellows dancing across the stage and the twinkling stars just pulled me into the setting. I have seen the Northern Lights and those were pretting damn close. The snowmobile lights were awesome!  The Moose sign being flown in and lit up were a GREAT effect.
2) I have a general note to ALL actors.  Don't move unless you know why you are moving.  Otherwise, you have antsie feet. This caused straight lines, with the actors standing or sitting right next to one another.  I saw the backs of heads.
3) I liked the guitar music choice it added a sweetness to the show.
4) I enjoyed the scene Sad and Glad Steve Ledyard did an excellent job.  I didn't care for the waitress, when you are having a conversation with a customer you are actually looking at them  possibly making eye contact not walking around in front of them talking up to the sky.  Also when she exited the end of the scene she forgot her order pad on the table.  Track your props PEOPLE!!
5)  The physical comedy was fun to see Mike Stewart is pretty silly.
6)  Story of Hope staring the beautiful and talented Erin Hoffman.  She did an amazing job.  Delivering her lines in such a way that I was instantly sucked into her scene.  I wanted her to get what she was after, I identified with her, I was rooting for her and in the end I was crying with her.BRAVO my friend.

Happy SUNDAY People!
